RMXP has taken the community by storm! Personally I use this one as well. Many people are switching from RPG Maker 2000 and RPG Maker 2003. Everything has been redone, it all looks better and is just as easy as ever. RPG Maker XP introduces many new features, but the most obvious are the enhanced graphics and the addition of RGSS scripting. The ruby scripting element allows skilled makers to customise literally anything imaginable about their game. Check some of our affiliates for some great scripts and resources!
RMVX is the newest addition to the RPG Maker series, and includes many tweaks and fixes in comparison to RMXP, much the same way that RPG Maker 2003 built upon RPG Maker 2000. You will find that almost every resource and script for RMXP will also work in RMVX.
The most popular of the series, this program is still commonly used today even though newer versions of RPG Maker (2003/XP) have been released. There are literally thousands of resources available on the net for this particular version, so there will never be a shortage of stuff to use for your game. Check out out affiliates for some great resources! I however do recommend using RPG Maker XP if your computer can handle it.
Three years after RPG Maker 2000, RPG Maker 2003 came along. This release fixes many of the drawbacks of RPG Maker 2000 and features many completely revamped features, such as the battle system. Almost all resources from RPG Maker 2000 can be used in RPG Maker 2003, and even some RPG Maker 2000 games can be imported into RPG Maker 2003. While there is still the appeal of the newer RPG Maker XP, many people still stick to the simpler and arguably more fun to use RPG Maker 2003.
